2014 Mw 82 Iquique Earthquake

2014 Mw 8.2 Iquique earthquake

On April 1, 2014, an 8.2-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of northern Chile.

The quake occurred at a depth of 20 km and was caused by thrust faulting.

The earthquake caused widespread damage to buildings and infrastructure in the region, and at least six people were killed.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located 95 km northwest of Iquique, a city of about 200,000 people.

The earthquake was followed by a series of aftershocks, the largest of which was a 7.6-magnitude earthquake that occurred about an hour after the main shock.

The earthquake caused a tsunami that was observed along the coast of Chile and Peru.

The tsunami caused flooding and damage to coastal areas, but there were no reports of any deaths or injuries.

The earthquake is the largest to hit Chile since the 2010 Maule earthquake, which had a magnitude of 8.8.

The earthquake is a reminder of the seismic risks that exist in Chile and other parts of the world.
